Music to Maui's Ears

The Harold K.L. Castle Foundation has awarded UH Maui College's Institute of Hawaiian Music $200,000 to support budding Hawaiian musicians. This is a 1:1 challenge grant. Every $1 given by a donor to the Institute of Hawaiian Music will be matched with $1 from the Castle Foundation.

Physician-researcher David Curb Memorial Fund

Dr. Curb's impact on health care in the islands was significant. He brought numerous research projects to Hawaiʻi, including the national Women's Health Initiative, a long-term study of womenʻs health. The author of more than 400 articles in medical journals during his career, Curb also served as a mentor to dozens of researchers who have authored groundbreaking studies of their own.

Preserve Native Plants for the Future

Lyon Arboretum is home to a Micropropagation Lab. This is the only lab of its kind in Hawaiʻi. Here, critical rescue and recovery research takes place to prevent the extinction of native Hawaiian plants. To save more of our natural heritage, the Arboretum has embarked on a capital improvement project.

Chef Alan Wong has teamed up with the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo to build awareness of the critical plight of honey bees and to promote local solutions to sustaining the honey bee industry.

The Ann Dunham Soetoro Endowment is a tribute to an independent thinker who used Applied Anthropology to analyze situations and prevailing assumptions to develop creative and effective solutions.
