Where people come together to learn more about our distinctive culinary arts and culture.
Where students can further develop their professional skills and business management acumen in energy efficient, leading-edge culinary laboratories, classrooms and kitchens.
Where anyone who desires to learn and aspires to succeed at the highest professional level will be given the opportunity.
At the University of Hawaiʻi’s advanced culinary program on the slopes of Diamond Head, students will be able to pursue:
The state-of-the-art CIP at Diamond Head will be a place where students will receive an affordable and accessible world-class culinary training from world-class chefs.
This advanced training will nurture greatly needed qualified, educated workers to support the Hawaiʻi restaurant and hospitality industries, while building on the unique Asia-Pacific cuisine that has come to be world-renowned for its captivating blend of flavors, colors and textures through the creations of master chefs such as Roy Yamaguchi and Alan Wong.
We are seeking at least $16 million in private gifts to help the University of Hawaiʻi fulfill this vision. A $5 million grant from the prestigious Conrad N. Hilton Foundation has boosted private giving support to more than $8 million from individuals who share this vision. We are halfway there!
"The vision for the new Culinary Institute of the Pacific at Diamond Head facility is an exciting
and dynamic project for me to be involved with. The new facility and curriculum will feature what is best
about Hawaiʻi. It will allow local students to interact with international
students to broaden their horizons and experience new and different ideas.
I believe that having a
restaurant component as part of the program will serve to foster community involvement and support. I relish
the opportunity to come together with educators and chefs to bring the new facility to fruition."
"We need an institution of higher learning to teach the kind of cooking that exists in Hawaiʻi
today. A curriculum whereby students understand the whys and the hows of our cross cultural cooking style. A place where the end product
is about teaching creativity and innovation. A school that brings out the best where East truly meets West in a culinary way. A venue
to showcase Hawaiʻi, its food history and flavors, the soul to our local cuisine, no matter what label
you put to it, to the rest of the world."
"The Culinary Institute of the Pacific is important to the success of Hawaiʻi’s community.
The foundation of Hawaiʻi’s success is through the education of its future leaders. The Culinary
Institute of the Pacific will provide a high level of training and certification for future generations: chefs, entrepreneurs, future
industry leaders to provide world class competitive food, and creativity.
We need to provide this vision for our leaders of tomorrow.
Let us recognize and support the momentum for what a world class Culinary Institute can offer to our community, our residents and students.
This is the right thing to do."
"The Culinary Institute of the Pacific at Diamond Head will be a place where students can perfect their training in a four-star restaurant;
where the ambitious can achieve a four-year degree in culinary arts and restaurant management; and, where the community can come together for cooking
demonstrations, classes and other cultural activities.
Moreover, this program will create that critical pipeline of highly skilled,
knowledgeable and motivated workers for our restaurant and hospitality industries. This is where Hawaiʻi can
showcase its talents and resources to the world."
