  • Write a Prescription for Student Success

Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy at UH Hilo

“I give you my personal assurance there is no better investment to be made. Every gift will continue giving for years into the future. Mahalo.”

—Prof. John M. Pezzuto, Dean, Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy

Since enrolling the first class of student pharmacists in 2007, the Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy has met or exceeded all expectations.

DKICP Focus on Cancer Research

imageEvery year, the number of deaths due to cancer adds up to more than five times the entire population of the State of Hawai‘i. Between the ravages of the condition itself and the side effects of the treatments, as well as the countless hours or consternation, the disease inserts itself in essentially every aspect of an entire family’s existence.

Researchers at the DKICP are discovering more about the fundamentals of cancer, how to prevent it and ways to improve treatment. Led by Founding Dean John Pezzuto, who is well known for the discovery of the cancer-preventive component in grapes and grape products, they explain what they’re working on, as well as their hopes for the future.

Milestones

  • imageStudents, faculty and staff number over 500
  • Four classes of student pharmacists have graduated
  • Degree programs including a PhD in pharmaceutical sciences are attracting scholars from around the world.

Our research programs are strong and growing. In fact, our programs are a transformational force that has been felt in Hawai‘i and throughout the Pacific.

The journey will continue to be an exciting one, with innovative programs, research and educational initiatives ahead. The college will also face challenges as it creates strategies to build on its achievements and overcome obstacles.
