Welcome to Kupono, the UH Foundation's new e-newsletter. Our goal is to keep you — our closest friends and supporters informed about exciting happenings on campuses around the state, and the impact and success of our philanthropic journey.
It is my distinct pleasure to launch this newsletter with very good news. By partnering with you, the UH Foundation raised $46.7 M this past fiscal year FY2011! This amounts to $1.7M over goal and speaks volumes about your recognition and support of the key role our university plays in securing a healthy Hawaiʻi.
The impact of this private funding will be felt on campuses statewide in the following areas:
- $14.3M for faculty support
- $11.7M for research
- $10.7M for student aid
- $10M in special programs
We thank all of you for the vital role you play in building a culture of philanthropy, and creating the margin of excellence for Hawaiʻi's students, faculty and communities.
In closing, I would like to express my sincere mahalo to Barry Weinman. Over the past 10 years, Barry has energetically served on the Foundation Board as chairperson and investment committee chair, in addition to being a model philanthropist. He and his wife Virginia were invaluable assets during the recent economic upheaval, and also key strategists and donors during the historic Centennial Campaign.
Fortunately, this is not goodbye. Barry will continue to serve our university as a member of the Upside Fund's Advisory Committee. The Upside Fund is a venture capital fund managed by the UH Foundation in conjunction with the Hawaii Strategic Development Corporation (HSDC) and the Research Corporation of the University of Hawaiʻi (RCUH).
These are dynamic times, filled with opportunity. We are looking forward to working with you as we develop strategic partnerships and leverage private support for our collective future.
Thank you for joining us as we continue on this exciting journey.
