HONOLULU – The University of Hawai‘i Cancer Center recently celebrated CoolingCancer.org’s $45,000 gift raised with proceeds from a golf tournament that took place over the Labor Day weekend.

“Over the last three years, this energetic, determined group has donated a total of $100,000 to support cancer research at the UH Cancer Center,” said Jerris Hedges, interim UH Cancer Center director. Hedges continued, “Their support is making a difference for our researchers who are working hard to find ways to prevent and cure cancer, a devastating diagnosis that affects so many in our community. We are most grateful.”

Andrew Santos, president, CoolingCancer.org shared, “In one year I watched my father and my co-worker’s mother die of cancer.   At the same time, another employee was fighting brain cancer while another’s wife in her early forties battled breast cancer.” Santos continued, “I realized that cancer was all around me and it was cutting the lives of people I love short. I had to do something.” Santos continued, “I chose to support the UH Cancer Center after learning that it is a world class facility with outstanding researchers right here in Hawai‘i.” Santos added, “What better way to help than to raise money from Hawai‘i residents and companies and then keep it in Hawai‘i and support the local fight against cancer.”

CoolingCancer.org is a non-profit organization established in October 2013 to raise money for cancer research and patients in Hawai‘i. It was created by Admor HVAC Products, Inc. Admor HVAC is one of Hawai‘i's largest distributors of air conditioning equipment and accessories, hence the "Cooling Cancer" name.

The UH Cancer Center has many dedicated funds for specific cancer-related research projects, such as those focusing on liver, breast, pancreatic and ovarian cancers.
