$129M Raised for University of Hawaii Students and Programs

HAWAIʻI — The University of Hawai‘i Foundation in partnership with generous donors and UH partners, raised $129 million in fiscal year 2015 (7/1/2014 - 6/30/2015). These funds will support students, faculty, research and programs on all ten UH campuses.

UH Alumni Couple Create Korean Studies Lecture Series

HONOLULU - Drs. Sung Chul and Daisy Yang of Yongin, South Korea, have pledged $1 million to establish an endowment to support the Drs. Sung Chul Yang and Daisy Lee Yang Lecture Series. Their pledge will support the promotion and advancement of Korean Studies at the Center for Korean Studies at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa School of Pacific and Asian Studies by creating a lecture series featuring eminent scholars of Korean or Asian affairs.

Five Community Leaders Appointed to Board

HAWAI‘I – The University of Hawai‘i Foundation is happy to announce the appointment of five community leaders to the board of trustees. They are Mike Hirai, Bob Hiam (returning board member), Mary Sellers (returning board member), Stanford Carr (returning board member) and Bill Grayson. Current board member T. Michael May has been elected to serve as board chair.

First Chancellor's Legacy Scholarship Awardees Named

Kahului, HI—June 22, 2015—Today the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College announced the first awardees of the Chancellor’s Legacy Scholarship, Jerome Texeria and Malia Ah Nee. Both UHMC students received $5,000 scholarships funded through an endowment that honors the legacy of Dr. Clyde Sakamoto, who retired as Chancellor after serving the UH System for 41 years.

$1 Million Challenge Grant for Lunalilo Scholarships at Kapi‘olani CC

HONOLULU - The University of Hawai‘i Foundation is excited to announce that philanthropists Lester and Marian Kaneta have pledged $1 million for a challenge grant to help raise funds to sustain the Lunalilo Scholars Program at Kapi‘olani Community College, and double the number of students enrolled in this successful program. The Lunalilo Scholars Program at Kapi‘olani Community College uniquely serves and supports financially at-risk students.

The Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex Dedication

HONOLULU – Community leaders and friends of the University of Hawai‘i came together today for the blessing and dedication of The Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex at UH Mānoa. Thanks to a $5 million gift from The Clarence T.C. Ching Foundation and a public-private partnership that included support from the state and university, UH Mānoa’s only on-campus, all-purpose track and field, football, soccer and recreational facility has been transformed into a dynamic center for student activity.

Largest Scholarship at UH Maui College Created

Makana Aloha Foundation made a $10,000 gift to fund a scholarship for a full-time student pursuing an associate’s degree in the Culinary Arts program at UH Maui College. It is the campus’ largest ever scholarship gift.
