For those who love the arts, the premiere event of the new UHM Partnership for the Arts entitled “THE ABSTRACT” was an eye-opening view of the treasure trove of talent within the art, music and dance departments at UH Mānoa.

The innovative collaboration of the departments included original works created for the event, including “The Abstract Dance” choreographed by professor Betsy Fisher, UH Mānoa Dance Program, and “The Abstract Music” created by the artistic director of the new UH Mānoa Guitar Series Ian O’Sullivan. Both works were themed to the UH Mānoa Art Gallery’s exhibit “New New York – Abstract Painting in the 21st Century.” Guests enjoyed cocktails and dined on elegant pūpū, perused a curated art sale, and listened to improvisational jazz musicians play familiar works of the 1950s – 60s in the Art Courtyard. Guests collectively created their own collaborative grand abstract art piece, later revealed during the performance within the Gallery (a first for the space). This fundraising event was held on behalf of the three College of Arts & Humanities departments.
