It has been very rewarding seeing this special stewardship event grow over the years! This year more than 160 people came together to celebrate the donors who are funding scholarships for Kapi‘olani CC students pursuing careers in diverse fields ranging from the allied health sciences to culinary arts.

Guests were moved by the video that introduced us to three women who are able to follow their dreams and fulfill their potential thanks to the support of scholarships.

Kapi‘olani CC Chancellor Leon Richards, Vice Chancellor Louise Pagotto and UH Foundation Vice President for Development Greg Willems warmly thanked donors for their commitment to students and highlighted the tremendous impact the donors, UH and Kapi‘olani CC faculty and staff and the UH Foundation have made by partnering to benefit students.

Chancellor Richards showcased Kapi‘olani CC excellence by inviting Team Hawai‘i 2013 and their coaches to the podium. Kapi‘olani CC's culinary competition team, Team Hawai‘i 2013, won the American Culinary Federation's Western Regional Student Team Championships in a competition that took place in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho and Spokane, Washington. Team Hawai‘i will vie against three other regional groups at a national contest in July in Las Vegas.

Mr. Ming Chi, trustee of the Feng Yi Fong Foundation shared the humble story of its late donor, Mr. Peter Faun. Mr. Faun wanted to honor his mother’s memory by helping students in need and encouraging them to complete their studies in the fields of health sciences, nursing, and emergency medical services. He hopes to impart the lesson that the cycle of giving, starts at every level.

Living up to their reputation as a premier dining spot, the Ka‘Ikena Laua‘e Fine Dining restaurant instructors and students wowed guests with a dangerously delicious buffet dinner.

We look forward to seeing you next year!
