Scholarship donors, recipients and members of the UH ʻohana rang in the Chinese year of the monkey at the UH Mānoa and UH System Scholarship Celebration on February 8. The Stan Sheriff Center radiated a deep red as guests gathered to celebrate the generosity of donors and the continued success of UH students who have been touched by their support. In line with the Chinese New Year theme, the evening also emanated visions of prosperity and longevity as UH Foundation celebrates its 60th anniversary.

As part of the program, guests heard from speakers including UH Foundation scholarship recipient Makana Silva. Capturing the essence of the evening, Silva spoke about the impact of financial support and how scholarships not only help pay for college but also give students a sense of hope in achieving their aspirations.

“I think it's not just the money where you see the appreciation, I think it's in our actions every day,” said Silva. “It’s the little things, giving back to people in our own community, I think that's where your contributions come unto us. You change our lives, and give us hope.”
