The UH Foundation has elected four new members to the Board of Trustees. Their terms begin July 1, 2012. Kathleen Kagawa is the president and owner of the Hawaii 5-0 Group of companies. Ritchie N. Mudd is the founder and former CEO of RSI Roofing and Building Supply. Catherine Ngo is the executive vice president and chief administrative officer at Central Pacific Bank. Kent R. Sim Lab impact story
Thanks to an innovative partnership between the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene, HMSA Foundation, Hawai‘i Pacific Health, The Queen’s Medical Center, and Kaiser Permanente Hawai‘i, the UH Translational Health Science Simulation Center is transforming nursing education in Hawai‘i. The Fred T. Korematsu Professor of Law and Social Justice
The William S. Richardson School of Law named UH Law professor Eric K. Yamamoto to the newly-established professorship. This professorship honors the late Fred T. Korematsu, whose courage in the face of racially-biased World War II government policies of detaining and imprisoning Japanese Americans will inspire advanced studies in civil liberties at the UH Mānoa Law School and contribute to social justice initiatives in the United States and beyond. World-renowned economist, Nobel laureate and New York Times best-selling author Joseph Stiglitz engaged the community in thought-provoking discussion during his visit to the UH Mānoa campus. He was a featured visitor as part of the University's Distinguished Lecture Series, as well as the Stephen and Marylyn Pauley Sustainability Series, which honors the Edwin W. New Scholarship Benefits Student Beekeepers And Promotes Sustainable Agriculture
Three UH Hilo students have received first-ever awards of the Adopt-a-Beehive with Alan Wong Scholarship from the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resource Management: Brittany Ann Rocha, Julianna Graper, and Tayler Manriki. The scholarships were made possible through the generous support of donors who joined Chef Alan Wong in adopting beehives at UH Hilo's Farm Laboratory in Pana‘ewa in the 2011-2012 school year.
