Myron B. Thompson School of Social Work

Your Support Matters to All of Us

Your support helps us to achieve educational excellence for social work with our focus on social justice.

The people who benefit from social work are our ‘ohana and neighbors, whether it is loved ones facing health problems such as cancer or heart disease; undergoing bereavement counseling; experiencing unemployment; or suffering from an array of social difficulties, including addictions, homelessness, or domestic violence.

We emphasize social work for Native Hawaiians and the other diverse peoples of Hawai‘i and the Pacific-Asia region, but we are also sensitive to social work issues that transcend the global community.

Preparing for the Future

Our three degree programs, BSW, MSW and PhD prepare students to address the needs of people at vulnerable times in their lives.  We anticipate a strong need for our workforce as the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (2011) indicates that the employment of social workers is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations through 2018.

Gifts Make a Difference

Gifts to the Myron B. Thompson School of Social Work have helped us achieve remarkable results. We have:

  • improved student access to programs.
  • fostered faculty development.
  • contributed to community-based research programs.
  • scholarship endowments supporting student success in all our programs. Many of these students would not have been able to attend UH without financial support.

Join Us

We hope that you will join us in our effort to build a better state, nation and world. Our faculty, staff and students stand steadfast in their commitment to helping others. We firmly believe that when we lift the most vulnerable and oppressed peoples, we lift the entire global community.
