What is REIS?

omgAt the Renewable Energy and Island Sustainability (REIS) Center, students and faculty from eight UH Mānoa colleges join together to study, research, and innovate solutions to renewable energy and island sustainability issues.

Shaping the future

Led by the College of Engineering with seed funding from UH Mānoa plus a major Department of Energy (DOE) grant and other outside sources, in five years the Center has seen dynamic growth and an emerging expert role in energy education and research in our state.

Teaching the next generation

Our investment in UH students and interdisciplinary programs prepares the next generation to lead with knowledge and resources, as well as providing necessary workforce training for the energy sector in Hawai‘i and globally.

Growing new green ideas

REIS is helping to create new technologies and initiatives, including smart microgrid initiatives, smart sustainable disaster devices, human energy harvesting, and more.

“Your support keeps our innovation and research growing. With your help, the Renewable Energy & Island Sustainability Program at UH will continue to shape a sustainable future for Hawai‘i.”
