  • Help Build Architecture for the 21st Century

UH Mānoa School of Architecture

The UH Mānoa School of Architecture (archawai‘i) is a dynamic community made up of students and faculty from all over the world coming together to work and study in the beautiful and globally unique tropical environment of the Hawaiian Islands.

Hawai‘i’s only school of architecture plays a significant role in building the educational, economic and environmental future of our islands. It provides outstanding architecture education programs that attract the best and brightest design leaders of the future.

The school is recognized for its Asia-Pacific focus and offers the only National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) accredited Doctor of Architecture degree in the United States and Canada.

Examples of how donors’ generosity has impacted our students and programs:

  • Scholarships help talented, committed students receive the outstanding education they need so they can make significant contributions to the field. Thanks to donors, we awarded almost $40,000 in scholarships this year to our architecture students.
  • Focused internationally, SoA has a successful dual-degree program with Tongji University in Shanghai, and faculty and students are working on projects or interning in 12 countries outside the U.S. We have also formed an exciting partnership with the China State Construction Engineering Corporation (one of the largest construction companies in the world) to provide executive education for CSCEC and internship opportunities for our students.

International travel and living overseas are expensive, so the donor-funded scholarships and travel awards are critical to helping our students take advantage of these life-changing opportunities.
  • Our Environmental Research and Design Lab is managing more than $1 million in research projects addressing sustainability issues here in Hawai‘i. Two of our newest faculty are involved in UHM’s Presidential Research Center project, which has the potential to draw international attention and resources to the university and the state.
