Palikū Theatre – Windward Community College

Palikū Theatre is a magnet for fine and performing arts for all of O‘ahu. Its dramatic setting, unique design and community mission have made it a sought-after venue for a range of creative endeavors – from concerts and dance performances to plays and film showings.

“This jewel of a theatre continues to delight audiences year after year. Palikū Theatre is an important part of our student experience and a center for performing arts for all to enjoy – from elementary students to our kupuna.”

—Doug Dykstra, Windward CC Chancellor

Vision for the future

Your help is needed for Palikū to realize its potential as a valuable community asset. Ticket sales generate only 40 percent of the Palikū Theatre annual budget revenue, as is the case for most theatres in Hawai‘i and across the nation. While the state has provided a portion of basic operating funds, corporate and private support must make up the difference.

Who uses Palikū?

A community theatre
Palikū offers community productions and many Broadway favorites that attract a total audience attendance of more than 40,000 people a year.

It has successfully staged large-scale musicals – including Fiddler on the Roof, My Fair Lady, West Side Story, Oklahoma!, South Pacific, and blockbusters such as Phantom of the Opera – with award-winning director Ron Bright.

“Palikū Theatre is a learning center for our students to hone their craft, both on the stage and in the wings. Palikū needs your support for costs associated with Broadway productions as well as other needs. Please join us as we strive to make this theatre all it can be for our students and community.”

—Tom Holowach, Palikū Theatre Manager

A community resource
Palikū Theatre is used by many K-12 and higher education schools.

It also has been a welcoming space for a range of dance groups, independent productions including the Hawai‘i Shakespeare Festival, Heritage Music Festivals, Chamber Music Hawai‘i, Keola Beamer, Honolulu Dance Theatre, Sounds of Aloha and Na Leo Lani and many more.

Windward CC students
Windward CC theatre students use the theatre for courses including:

  • Intro to Drama and Theatre
  • Mask Making and Performance
  • Acting I and Acting II
  • Intro to Stagecraft and Advanced Stagecraft
  • Dramatic Production

WCC theatre students produce at least one show each year as part of their curriculum and also take part in our community theatre shows.
