I graduated from Leeward Community College in 2018 with my Associate's in Liberal Arts and transferred to the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa to pursue a Bachelor's in Environmental Design. I am also a part-time student employee and a part-time sales and stock associate at Guess Factory. As of now, to comply with COVID-19 quarantine protocols, hundreds of local businesses and stores have closed and shortened shopping hours. Unfortunately, I became one of many affected by the unemployment crisis.

On March 31, I received an email from my employer notifying me that I am being furloughed. Unfortunately, Guess Factory is shut down until further notice. As a student, I rely on my employer income to pay for student services. Like many other students, I do not have access to much financial assistance, so I am applying for all kinds of jobs.

Some of the issues I’m facing now are because public and school libraries are closed and they provide support for my studies. Being withheld internet access, the ability to print documents and having limited access to primary textbooks and resources are just a few of my main concerns. Normally, I would have relied on my salary as a part-time employee to keep my studies afloat and steady, and to pay for services to accommodate my academics. However, I don’t have my job anymore.

The Urgent Relief award is helping me pay for wifi and phone service so I can keep studying and stay in touch with news and family. Despite having past financial hardships, I continue to encourage myself to keep going on this journey.

I would like to extend a warm thank you to donors and everyone else who made this award possible. Every donation truly makes a difference, and I am grateful to be able to bring my story to others.

Your helping hand and support never goes unnoticed.

Sending and wishing good health to you and your families. There are not enough words to express how much each and every one of you are appreciated.
