New $500,000 Grant Funds Student Success Center for Community Colleges

To help more Hawai‘i community college students complete and earn college credentials, the Kresge Foundation has awarded $500,000 to the University of Hawai‘i Community College System's proposed Student Success Center, a statewide collaboration of Hawai‘i's seven community colleges.

OB-GYN Faculty Create Endowment with $500,000 Gift

Honolulu – Faculty of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women’s Health (OB-GYN) at the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) are involved in nearly a third of the births in Hawai‘i each year. Many of these physicians practice medicine through the University Health Partners of Hawaiʻi (UHP), which is JABSOM’s faculty practice plan.

Maui Electric Announces $30,000 Endowment Fund for Sustainable Science Management Program

KAHULUI, Hawaiʻi Jan. 23, 2016 – Maui Electric Company announced that it has established the Maui Electric Company Sustainability Scholarship Endowment fund through a grant from the Hawaiian Electric Industries (HEI) Charitable Foundation for students enrolled in the Sustainable Science Management (SSM) program at University of Hawai’i Maui College. Maui Electric President Sharon Suzuki presented a check for $30,000 to Chancellor Lui Hokoana during a ceremony held at the UH Maui College campus on Thursday, Jan. 14.

Ingersoll Rand Foundation Funds UHWO Facilities Management Program

WEST OʻAHU – The Ingersoll Rand Charitable Foundation has awarded $25,000 to support the University of Hawai‘i – West O‘ahu facilities management program. This funding will be dedicated to a pilot certification program for facilities managers to achieve a Sustainable Facility Manager certification through the International Facility Managers Association (IFMA).

Expanding Access and Inspiring Future Scientists

Hilo, Hawai‘i – Hawaiʻi Island schoolchildren will enjoy greater access to educational experiences at the ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center in 2016, thanks to the generosity of the Japan Foundation for Promotion of Astronomy (JFPA) through Subaru Telescope. Earlier this month, the foundation awarded a grant of ¥800,000 ($7,200) to ‘Imiloa for its school field trip program, with the funds designated to help support roundtrip transportation costs for schools outside Hilo.

CoolingCancer.org Combats Cancer Through Giving

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai‘i Cancer Center recently celebrated CoolingCancer.org’s $45,000 gift raised with proceeds from a golf tournament that took place over the Labor Day weekend.

Scholarship Builds on Daniel and Lydia Makuakāne’s Hawaiian Language Legacy

Hawai'i Island - The family of Daniel and Lydia Makuakāne have made a pledge of $100,000 to establish the Daniel and Lydia Makuakāne Endowed Scholarship. The endowment honors their parents Daniel and Lydia Makuakāne for their contributions to the preservation and perpetuation of Hawaiian language and cultural practices. The scholarship is intended to help increase the number and proficiency of Hawaiian speakers. It will support eligible undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the University of Hawai'i at Hilo Ka Haka 'Ula o Ke'elikōlani College of Hawaiian Language.
