As part of the Daniel and Maggie Inouye Distinguished Chair in Democratic Ideals programming, donors and members of the UH community enjoyed a public lecture by acclaimed historian of culture and politics Ruth Ben-Ghiat. Ben-Ghiat is an author, NYU Professor and CNN Commentator who taps into decades of scholarship to show how reactionary populists draw from a common playbook perfected by Mussolini almost a century ago, and how democratic movements have defeated authoritarians in the past and how we can do it again.
