The University of Hawaiʻi ʻohana answered the call to Come Together for the second UH Giving Tuesday, raising $245,639 from 1,209 donors and more than tripling the efforts of the University of Hawaiʻi Foundation’s inaugural Giving Tuesday last year.

“We are grateful for the generosity of the UH community this year, which has been nothing short of amazing,” University of Hawai‘i Vice President of Advancement and UH Foundation CEO Tim Dolan said. “Thank you to each and every one of the donors who came together for the second UH Giving Tuesday. Every gift makes an impact, especially to the students, faculty and researchers who work so hard to make UH such a special place.”

The gifts included nearly $70,000 in matching funds, including $25,000 from UH President David Lassner, who challenged the drive to draw 1,000 gifts, $20,000 from UH Athletics Director David Matlin and his wife, Dana, and matching funds from campus administrators, alumni and friends.

Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as an American day of philanthropy and giving in response to the consumerism of Black Friday and the holidays. Over the past nine years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate and celebrate generosity.
