At a Mahalo Celebration at the Waīkīki Aquarium, UH and UHF leadership personally thanked emeritus, retired, and former faculty for all they have done for the University of Hawai‘i, its students, and our community.

The event included a breakfast, opportunities to tour the Aquarium exhibits, and a talk by Dr. Edward Stone, the public voice for the spacecraft Voyager, a CalTech professor, and CEO for the new Thirty Meter Telescope on Mauna Kea. Dr. Stone shared stories about his life, the excitement of working on the Voyager project and other projects, and what he hopes the Thirty Meter Telescope discoveries will make possible. Dr. Stone also had an opportunity to get reacquainted with emeritus UH Mānoa professor Dr. David Swift who wrote the book “Voyager Tales.”

“Their philanthropic support is just one example of how the many years of teaching and research that you gave to this institution continues to positively impact UH and communities around the world through the success of your former students.  We are forever grateful for all you’ve done.  And many of you continue to stay involved and continue to give of yourselves.  We cannot thank you enough!”

The Foundation hopes to make this mahalo celebration and former faculty reunion an annual event.  If you didn’t receive an invitation, please contact UHF so we can be sure to include you next year.

Here are photos from the event as well as “memories” that some of our former faculty gave us permission to share.
