Event Date: June 16, 2009

On June 16th, the UH Foundation hosted a special event to honor David and Wendie McClain for their dedication and service to the University of Hawaiʻi. Friends, faculty and supporters of the university came together and personally thanked the McClains for their profound commitment to public education in our state.

Wendie was recognized for her work as the Community Liaison for the UH System, and her dedication and active partnership with the UH Foundation during the historic Centennial Campaign. She was also thanked for her work launching the Rubber Slipper Tours, in partnership with the President's office and the UH Foundation. The Rubber Slipper Tours give community members the opportunity to interact and personally connect with the remarkable achievements of each of the system's 10 campuses. While Wendie will no longer be spearheading the Rubber Slipper Tours, her tenacity and vision laid the groundwork for this program to be a model for continued engagement of our community members with our campuses.

David McClain was appointed president of the 10-campus UH System in March 2006; he has served as the system's chief executive officer since June 2004. He first joined the Manoa campus in 1991 as the Henry A. Walker Jr. Distinguished Professor of Business Enterprise and professor of financial economics and institutions. Now, 18 years later, he will be remembered as the centennial president who led the University of Hawaiʻi across the bridge from the end of its first hundred years to the beginning of its second century.

From the Rubber Slipper Tours to the Centennial Campaign's historic fundraising success, the impact of David and Wendie McClain's hard work and commitment to our students and community can be felt.

Thank you David and Wendie.
