Centennial Campaign Public Launch

Senator Inouye, Centennial Campaign Co-Chair

Diamond Head, August 18, 2007

"I want to be involved with the Centennial Campaign for two reasons.

First, I feel a profound emotional connection to the University of Hawaiʻi. This stems in part from my time as a student. It is also where I met my wife, Maggie, who was on the faculty.

Second, UH is a key part of this place we call Hawaiʻi. I want to do my part to see that UH builds on its dynamic centers of excellence, and reaches its full potential throughout the ten campuses. Its successes accrue to the greater community.

I would like to tell my friends and colleagues that UH is number one in a range of academic fields, like astronomy and oceanography.

I am ready to work with you to make this happen. I am ready to do my part."
