Prominent Kauaʻi family foundation presents Kauaʻi CC with a gift

LĪHUʻE, Hawai'i—The E.H.W. Broadbent Foundation recently presented Kauaʻi Community College with a gift to fund scholarships for students enrolled in college through the Waiʻaleʻale Project.  The Foundation was established by direct descendants of E.H.W. Broadbent. Representing their family, Sam Pratt and Melinda Walker presented the college with the gift.

Emma Veary Music Scholarship Established at UH Maui College

Kahului, HI – Aspiring musicians at the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College have a new student scholarship thanks to a small act of kindness by a Hawaiʻi music legend nearly 40 years ago. That’s when Dr. Laurel Lee Roberts, then a college student herself, sat on the beach outside the Halekulani Hotel in Waikiki, to hear the beautiful operatic range of Emma Veary.

Grootaert Establishes Endowed Scholarship for Hawaiian Studies, Dance and Music

HONOLULU -Dr. Christiaan “Chris” Grootaert, former lead economist in the social development department based at the World Bank’s D.C. office, has pledged $250,000 (with an outright gift coupled with his estate gift) to establish the Karen Elaine Chandler Endowed Hawai‘inuiākea Scholarship Fund for Hawaiian Studies, Dance, and Music. The scholarship supports undergraduate students pursuing a degree at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Hawai‘inuiākea School of Hawaiian Knowledge who have a strong focus in their studies on Hawaiian dance or the combination of Hawaiian dance and music.

Hy's Steak House Donates 10K to Support Training of Future Restaurateurs

HONOLULU – Hy’s Steak House has donated $10,000 to support the Kapi‘olani Community College Culinary program. This American Culinary Federation-accredited program continues its strong tradition and leadership in providing Hawai‘i and the world with skilled culinarians knowledgeable in Asian and Western cuisines, and state-of-the-art pastry arts. In 2009, a student team representing KCC Culinary Arts won the American Culinary Federation’s National Student Culinary Competition, earning it the title of the “Best in the Nation.” In July 2012, the program was provided with the maximum 7 year re-accreditation from its external accrediting body, the American Culinary Federation Educational Foundation (ACFEF) and honored with Exemplary Program status.

Brewbaker's $1M Endowment Fellowship Fuels Plant Breeding Research at CTAHR

Brewbaker HONOLULU – Veteran University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa plant breeder and corn expert Dr. James Brewbaker has established an endowed fellowship with outright and estate gifts totaling $1 million. The James L. Brewbaker endowed fellowship will assist full-time graduate students who are studying plant breeding in the Department of Tropical Plant and Soil Sciences at the UH Mānoa College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources (CTAHR).

PwC Los Angeles donates $250,000 to UH Shidler College of Business

HONOLULU, HI — The Shidler College of Business at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa has received a $250,000 gift from PwC US of Los Angeles, California, to establish a faculty fellowship endowment at the School of Accountancy. The “PricewaterhouseCoopers – Los Angeles Faculty Fellowship Endowment” will help the College in its effort to recruit and retain top accounting faculty and support its overall mission to achieve excellence in teaching and research.
