Flores Endowed Scholarship

February 27, 2014
  • Eddie Flores, BBA ’70 & Kaili Taniguchi

When Eddie Flores, BBA ’70, emigrated to Hawai‘i at 16, he couldn’t have known the incredible impact he would make here thanks to his education and hard work. The president and CEO of L&L Drive-Inn established a $1 million endowed scholarship at the UH Mānoa Shidler College of Business in 2007.

So far the scholarship has helped 104 students succeed.

Kaili Taniguchi is one of those fortunate undergraduate students. She helped create Bring Home Aloha, a student-run business at the Ilikai Hotel. She also founded 5,000 Reasons, an organization that seeks to raise $5,000 in scholarships for young girls and provide 5,000 books for children in Zambia, Africa. Her goal – to have a successful business in Africa, build schools and provide scholarships to others.

Thank you to donors like Eddie who give chances to students like Kaili, who in turn perpetuate the cycle of giving that creates better futures for the people of Hawai‘i and beyond.
