(Honolulu, Hawaiʻi) — Bob and Kelly Armstrong through the Armstrong Foundation of Honolulu have pledged $100,000 to support the UH Mānoa School of Architecture's vision for excellence and preeminence in architectural education. To date, they have fulfilled $20,000 of this pledge and have established the Armstrong Builders Fund for Excellence.

The Armstrong Builders Fund for Excellence will be used at the discretion of the Dean of the School of Architecture to promote excellence in architecture education for, but not limited to, scholarships, awards and fellowships for faculty and students, travel, publications, specialized equipment, and research.

"This gift shows that even though the economy is down, there are still people willing to step forward and support a vision in higher education," said Clark Llewellyn, Dean, School of Architecture. "In these times, schools need to be nimble and flexible. This gift helps the School of Architecture be just that, and the gift will enable us make the most out of unforeseen opportunities."

Robert (Bob) Armstrong, a member of the School of Architecture's Advisory Council, comes from a family of builders and has been in Hawaiʻi since 1970. He graduated from UH Mānoa with a bachelor’s degree in 1973. In 1976 he founded Armstrong Builders LLC, and today they are a recognized leader in Hawaiʻi’s residential and commercial construction markets. Currently, he serves as President of Armstrong Companies and CEO of Armstrong Builders LLC. Armstrong Builders has the mission to improve the quality of people's lives through the homes and products they develop, build and market. The Armstrong Companies include Armstrong Builders LLC, Armstrong Development, Armstrong Properties, Armstrong Design Ltd. and Armstrong Foundation.

"This was an easy gift to make as I am connected to the School of Architecture," said Bob Armstrong. "I am an alumnus of UH Mānoa, and also as a builder I've had the opportunity to work with many graduates from this school," Robert H. Armstrong, President, Armstrong Companies.
