"We cannot be more pleased with this generous scholarship donation from the Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle. These two scholarships will allow students to study in the areas of environmental sciences as well as agriculture technology. Windward Community College is in the business of changing lives, and these scholarships will make a difference in the lives of students whose values mesh with those of the Outdoor Circle."

Windward Community College Chancellor Douglas Dykstra

(Windward CC, Hawaiʻi) — Strengthening its commitment to Windward CC students, The Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle recently gave $5,000 through the University of Hawai‘i Foundation to support the Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle Environmental Studies Scholarship and the Windward Community College Agriculture Scholarship Fund. The Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle has supported scholarship funds at Windward Community College since 1994.

The Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle Environmental Studies Scholarship supports students studying in the environmental sciences at Windward Community College, with preference given to graduates of Windward O‘ahu high school graduates. $2,500 will be available for the 2010-2011 academic year. The Windward Community College Agriculture Scholarship Fund provides assistance to students in the Agriculture Program at Windward Community College. $2,500 will be available for the 2010-2011 academic year.

"The Outdoor Circle has a long history of being good stewards of our islands' natural environment; as such, we must prepare our youth to become active leaders in respecting and preserving these vital resources," Joan Fleming, President of Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle said. "The Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle is proud to provide scholarships in agriculture and environmental sciences for students at Windward CC. The classroom education and hands-on experience they receive will prepare them very well for continued education or entering the workforce as advocates for responsible and sustainable environmental stewardship."

Chancellor Dykstra remarked, "Support for students seeking a higher degree of education is one of the greatest gifts that can be given, and we applaud the members of the Lani-Kailua Outdoor Circle for providing that critically needed support."
