  • Sangik Jung donates $50,000

Sangik Jung and his wife Kyungsin Lee have donated $50,000 to support the International Program at UH West Oahu.

“Fostering a global perspective and appreciation of cultural diversity is essential to 21st leadership development,” UH West Oʻahu Chancellor Maenette Benham said. “Mr. Jung’s generosity will help us to grow and strengthen our study abroad programs as well as bring international students and scholars to our campus; thereby ensuring the very best international learning and living experiences.”

Sangik Jung is the executive director and head of real estate financing and investment division at KB Securities in Seoul, Korea.

“I love Hawaiʻi, my children go to school here,” said Jung, who has a heart for Hawaiʻi, and a heart for UH.

“Asian people all over the world want to study in Hawaiʻi, especially at UH,” he said. “It’s a very good environment, with good people.”

Jung wants to help students in Korea study in Hawaiʻi, while also providing UH West Oʻahu students with an opportunity to participate in study abroad. As a scholarship recipient himself, he understands the importance and life-changing aspects of scholarships. Jung received a scholarship to study in Kyoto, Japan and this experience opened up a wealth of opportunities.

“If my donation helps to do the same for other students, then that would be good.”

UH West Oʻahu Director of International Relations and Programs Tim Park, said that Mr. Jung’s donation “will help to grow our international programs, research, and provide scholarship opportunities for our students!"
