JTB Goodwill Foundation President Tsukasa Harufuku and board member Lena Young presented a ceremonial check to University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa’s School of Travel Industry Management Dean Thomas Bingham and University of Hawai‘i Foundation Senior Director of Development Harriet Cintron, after establishing an endowed scholarship for students pursuing degrees in the field of tourism and hospitality.

Accounting firm Accuity LLP and accounting faculty at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Shidler College of Business joined forces to establish a $50,000 endowed scholarship in honor of Manuel “Manny” R. Sylvester, former managing partner of Coopers and Lybrand.

"My family and I are so pleased to be making this gift to support the capital needs of the Culinary Institute of the Pacific.  We are great proponents of both fine food and good nutrition, which we feel are keys to longevity and happiness."

The University of Hawai‘i Foundation is honored to welcome community leaders Peter Fukunaga, Peter Grossman, Elliot “Buzz” Loden, Ken Miller, Diane Paloma and Lori Teranishi to its board of trustees.

The Culinary Institute of the Pacific and Health Sciences Programs at Kapi‘olani CC received $70,000 from Kaiser Permanente and $50,000 from Walmart Foundation to support the purchase and refurbishment of the college’s “Cooking up a Rainbow” Health and Wellness Food Truck.

Today, our state is short 700 doctors needed to serve a population our size. To help tackle this critical shortfall Territorial Savings Bank (TSB) donated $100,000 to create a new scholarship for medical students at the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM).

Thanks to the tireless efforts of John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) Dean Jerris Hedges, dedicated philanthropists Barry and Virginia Weinman and generous academic teaching partners Hawai‘i Pacific Health and The Queen's Health Systems.

Roberta and Newton Chu have donated $35,000 to establish an endowed scholarship to honor Dr. Paul H. I. Coleman for his contributions to the astronomy field. Coleman, the first Native Hawaiian with a doctorate in physics, spent 16 years with the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Institute for Astronomy (IfA), where he was instrumental in its education and outreach efforts. 

Ever since the opening of its world-class Subaru Telescope on Maunakea in 1999, the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) has found creative ways to give back to the host community here on Hawai‘i Island.

The anonymous donation will be used to create three endowments and support numerous collections and programs.

The University of Hawai‘i (UH) today announced a $3 million grant from Strada Education Network, a national nonprofit dedicated to strengthening America’s education to employment pathways, to continue the advancement of career pathways in Hawai‘i. In addition, the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation provided a $300,000 grant to amplify the work across the state.

The Shidler College of Business at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa received a $2 million bequest from the estate of Clifford and Blanche Hee to expand their scholarship in honor of their sons, Thomas and Michael Hee. Both sons unfortunately predeceased their parents due to complications arising from Hemophilia.
