JTB Goodwill Foundation’s New Endowment Scholarship

JTB Goodwill Foundation President Tsukasa Harufuku and board member Lena Young presented a ceremonial check to University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa’s School of Travel Industry Management Dean Thomas Bingham and University of Hawai‘i Foundation Senior Director of Development Harriet Cintron, after establishing an endowed scholarship for students pursuing degrees in the field of tourism and hospitality.

The Culinary Institute of the Pacific and Health Sciences Programs at Kapi‘olani CC received $70,000 from Kaiser Permanente and $50,000 from Walmart Foundation to support the purchase and refurbishment of the college’s “Cooking up a Rainbow” Health and Wellness Food Truck.

Helping Future Astronomers Reach for the Stars

Roberta and Newton Chu have donated $35,000 to establish an endowed scholarship to honor Dr. Paul H. I. Coleman for his contributions to the astronomy field. Coleman, the first Native Hawaiian with a doctorate in physics, spent 16 years with the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Institute for Astronomy (IfA), where he was instrumental in its education and outreach efforts.
