Kyung Sun “Kay” Chung is the benefactor of several scholarship endowments at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, aiming for increased understanding and appreciation of U.S. linkages to Korea’s culture, economy and law.

Douglas Yamamura dedicated his life to education. He attended the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa in the 1930s. He was a principal and teacher at Waialua High School on O‘ahu, Hāna High School on Maui, and Kāpapala School on Hawai‘i Island. He earned his doctorate from the University of Washington, then returned to Honolulu where he was an education professor and head of the sociology department at Mānoa. From 1975 until his retirement in 1978, he served as Mānoa’s chancellor.
“Tennis is a little like litigation,” L. Richard Fried, Jr. told the Honolulu Advertiser in 2008 on the occasion of his induction into the Hawai‘i Tennis Hall of Fame. “You've got to be a little competitive so you don't get walked over, and you have to do it ethically."
The scholarship is as much for the memory of my father and his career as my acceptance of its major role in shaping my own values, life and career.
In honor of Andrews' generosity, David Kanashiro is working with the UH Foundation Office of Estate and Gift Planning and his estate plan to establish the Arthur Lynn Andrews Regents Scholarship Endowment to support students chosen as Regents Scholars. Selected students will receive a full tuition scholarship for four years of undergraduate study, allowing them to focus on school without the added financial stress.
The Kenneth Keiso Uyeda and Nora Saida Uyeda Endowment in the Department of Geriatric Medicine will strengthen the educational, clinical training, research and community outreach missions of the department, and help ensure a strong future for the geriatric medicine fellowship training program.
Together, they have made a bequest to the University of Hawai‘i. The Dieter and Annette Mueller-Dombois Endowed Fellowship will be established from a portion of their estate. As stated in the gift agreement, this fellowship will fund "graduate or post-doctoral research at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa College of Natural Sciences, Department of Botany in the area of island ecosystems and vegetation ecology."
Having a personal understanding of the importance of family medicine and the need for family physicians in Hawai'i and beyond, Frank has established the Jennifer Emma Frank Endowment to support the Family Medicine Residency Program at UH Mānoa's John A. Burns School of Medicine.
